Spring is in the air and awakens the project pit – kunst in de open ruimte van Borgloon-Heers from its hibernation. Since 2011 you find a great number of artworks in Borgloon that make you look at your surroundings in a different way. This year, new artworks are added. pit evolves every month.

Dré Wapenaar – Tranendreef
In the landscape, next to the lane heading to the castle of Hex, you can find four tree tents where you can spend the night. The tear-shaped sculptures are hanging from standard trees and provide an alternative form of accommodation to spend a night in Haspengouw. The work of Dré Wapenaar (NL) is always situated on the border between architecture and sculpture, between a stay and a meet. His sculptures are mainly tent constructions that are placed temporarily. The social interaction around the work is of great importance for the artist.

Ardie Van Bommel – Field Furniture “Pure Nature”
At the tree tents of Dré Wapenaar in Tranendreef you can now also find Field Furniture “Pure Nature” by Ardie Van Bommel (NL). She brings a sit, wash, toilet and barbecue unit based on the palettes or fruit chests which are often found in the Haspengouw landscape. For Ardie Van Bommel it’s important that visitors of Tranendreef meet each other around her artworks.

Paul Devens – Proximity Effect
In the Servatius church in Groot-Loon, sound artist Paul Devens (NL) shows a new artwork. Proximity Effect is a sound installation made to measure for this beautiful church that originates from the 12th century. Speakers and sensors, take the visitor to a game of tones, sounds of outside recordings, acoustics, echo and space.

Besides these three artworks Z33 also puts emphasis on an interesting student project in the context of pit. The past months, liberal arts students of the MAD-faculty worked on SPOOR. This work is based on art in public space.
