TENTVILLAGE REVISITED
TENTENDORP HERZIEN

In 2001 I have built 4 Tentvillages,
commissioned by 4 campsites in the Netherlands.

In 2007 I was able to repurchase one Tentvillage and revisit the work. In doing this it became possible to present the work as a free standing sculpture on site.

It can be loaned and used for shows
directly from Studio Dré Wapenaar.

- A "half-high pedestal" was added with an extra "sitting-sky-pit" ,
- The frame was powdercoated and reinforced with 16mm "cross constructions" ( wartels ).
- All frames were connected with each other. With this it became possible to present the work without concreed foundations.
- The floors were replaced by new 1.5" thick oak-wood decking and seatings
- New coverings were manufactured in the studio.
- A sea-container was bought to simplify storage and transportation. The whole Tentvillage-Revisited fits inside.

"The way in which the individual modules are set together as a village, the arrangement of common and private spaces, the different levels and proximities of the tents, can be done in many different ways. It depends on the group of people that will live in it and the social implications it deals with.
All tents together form an image like a miniature society. Over and under, inside-outside, fullness and emptiness, material qualities, construction, moving around and through, being present in, the way light plays with the transparency of the canvas and moves over the surface of the material.

All these qualities, …together with…design, functionality and necessity, set up a situation of encountering.”
