SOLO-for-YOU-PIANO-PAVILION ( S4Y-PP ) 2011
dedicated to marijke van russen groen ( 1930-2011 )
In the new piano-pavilion performance is even coming closer to you.
The pianist is playing for maximum 2 people audience.
Just like in the other 2 pavilions, the Fourgrandpianopavilion and the Recitalpavilion, performance is inevitable. Truly we can see a dialogue between performing musician and listining audience. In this SoloforYou-Pianopavilion the acoustic is coming from the 800 kilos oak floarings, the 800 kilos steel frame, and the canvas curved around you, grand piano and listener on top of the floor, resonance all around.”
Architecture, design, sculpture and performance join together in this pavilion. Focussed on repetetive and contemporary music from Steve Reich, Philip Glass, John Adams, Terry Riley and Simeon ten Holt in relation to the old masters.
“ Music was first ! At home there was a piano. Playing it, as a kid, showed me a world that was very much part of me. There was freedom of expression, an opening to a story of myself, and it became part of my daily routine. But my choice was for the contemporary art. It was far away, had elements in itself that seemed unreachable, and was not-defined. I was inevitable pushed in it’s direction.”
