BIKE-BRIDGE-PAVILION ( FIETSBRUG-PAVILJOEN ) 2011

• placed: July 21 2011
• The Bridge has been built for “bikers and hikers”, in the neighbourhood of NOORDER KOESLAG,
town of WIJHE, east of The Netherlands, south of Zwolle.

• I see a bridge with several different functions:
- as a gate in 2 different directions; to the new neighbourhood and back.
- as a dwelling place.
- as a short-cut to both sides of the water.

• The bridge has been “widened” to the middle, creating space for 2 benches.
• The roof has the same form as the deck, but mirrored.
• The cross-sections in the bridge are on both sides, below deck, and below covering,
making a solid connection between both shores.

• It was constructed by a team of STUDIO DRÉ WAPENAAR ( Welders: Johan Ravensberg, Dennis van Pinxteren ) • The construction took place in the factory of “Van Rijsoort Walserij “ ( Bender ) at Klaaswaal, the Netherlands. • Structural Engineer André van der Maarl: Technisch Bureau Cor de Heer, Rotterdam ( www.tbdeheer.nl ) • Membrane Engineer : Tentech, Utrecht ( www.tentech.nl ) • Membrane-covering: Buitink Duiven • Computer-drawings: Dré Wapenaar. • Powdercoating: Rotterdam-Coatings bv.
