• The SOUNDBOX-PAVILION offers an acoustic experience concentrated around a central soundbox; a form with a voluminous floor, comprising a hardwood base and light wood covering. The box is set under tension utilising tension cables. The audience are invited to sit against and around the outer edge of the soundbox, allowing the resonances to be all enveloping.
• The pavilion is designed for piano recitals, duets such as cello and piano, as well as violin quartets, saxophone ensembles etc.
• The canvas tent structure of the pavilion and the soundbox are designed as free standing elements. The tent forms a square shape against the circular shaped form of the inside floor. There is a 360 degrees horizontal perpective view and a 180 degrees vertical perspective view. The pavilion can be expanded by using additional surrounding benches, extending the audience capacity from 40 to 120.
• The pavilion melts architecture, design, sculpture and performance.
The audience is positioned around the musicians, with their perspective turned outwards, whilst resonances run through them. A unique and physical dialogue between performing musician and listening audience is thereby created.
•The musical programs of the pavilion are focused on minimal and contemporary music from Steve Reich, Philip Glass, John Adams, Joep Franssens and Simeon ten Holt in relation to the old masters.
•This pavilion is the 4th in a series of piano pavilions:
- The FourGrandPianoPavilion completed in 2004, for the music of Simeon ten Holt.
- The RecitalPavilion completed in 2008, for an audience of 100, and max. 2 grand pianos.
- The SoloforYouPianoPavilion completed in 2011, for 1 grand piano and max. audience of 2.
- The Soundbox-Pavilion, 2013.
